A Derry man who was the first person in Northern Ireland to be hit by a police TASER gun has walked free from court without a 'stain on his character' after all charges against him were dismissed.


Declan Smith (38), of Elaghmore Park had been charged with threatening to kill his former partner and children on August 15, last year and for breaching a non-molestation order on two occasions.

Police used the TASER gun on Mr Smith believing he was holding his children in a 'hostage situation' after receiving allegations from his former partner.

However, at Derry Magistrates Court today, a prosecutor made an application to offer no evidence against Mr Smith after the woman made a withdrawal statement."
