THE BBC is facing a £1MILLION legal bill after accusing a top IVF doctor of offering "unnecessary treatment", according to reports.
Last night it emerged the Corporation had agreed to settle with Mohamed Taranissi — who has helped thousands of mums give birth.
The BBC will reportedly paying both sides' legal bills.
Legal experts said this could cost up to £6MILLION, but the BBC said Mr Taranissi's costs were around £900,000.
Last October the High Court ordered the BBC to pay the Egyptian-born doctor an estimated £500,000 costs after it 'threw in the towel' over one part of its defence.
Mr Taranissi sued the BBC after claiming Panorama made defamatory allegations against him.
The Panorama broadcast in January 2007 suggested one of his Central London clinics offered "unnecessary and unproven" treatment to an undercover reporter posing as a patient.
The show also alleged a 26-year-old journalist was offered IVF treatment costing thousands of pounds despite neither she nor her partner having a history of fertility problems.
Mr Taranissi's legal team called the programme "biased and irresponsible".
A BBC source said: "Both parties have agreed to settle the case and consider the matter now closed."
