SSRI media interest stimulates the reporting of adverse suicidal reactions
7.4.2 Suicidal thoughts and self-harm
These analyses included the following terms which have been grouped under the overall term ‘suicidal thoughts and self-harm’: suicide accomplished, suicide attempt, suicidal ideation, aggravated suicidal ideation, parasuicide, non-accidental overdose and thoughts of self-harm. Data were analysed since marketing up to September 2003.
It is recognised that media interest can stimulate reporting through the Yellow Card Scheme, and the publicity surrounding the safety of fluoxetine in 1990 caused an increase in reporting of suicidal thoughts and self-harm associated with fluoxetine. There was also some effect on reporting rates for other SSRIs. The reporting rate of suicidal behaviour with fluoxetine then dropped between 1991 and 1993, and continued to fall gradually until 1998. In the years 1995 to 1998, the reporting rates for fluoxetine, paroxetine and sertraline were very similar, figure 7.2. This argues against this phenomenon being a particular adverse reaction to fluoxetine. Reporting rates for venlafaxine were comparatively higher between 1995 and 1998 (figure 7.3), although this coincides with the first few years of marketing of this drug. After 1998, reporting rates for venlafaxine fell to similar level as the other SSRIs.

Life as a Panorama reporter since 2000 has given me a unique opportunity to pursue investigations that really matter.
I have been given the space and resources to unravel an international drug company scandal that fundamentally questions how much faith we should put in the medicines we take.
The first film I made about GlaxoSmithKline's best-selling antidepressant, Seroxat, generated an unprecedented viewer response; a staggering 65,000 people rang the BBC helpline after the programme.
I was able to continue digging away at the story in three further films. These have resulted in a complete rethink of the drug's safety and effectiveness as well as an overhaul of the way patients report side effects from any prescription medicine.

Seroxat side effects are the same as Zoton, Tramadol or even Dothiepin - no wonder then that Seroxat lawyers drop so many not so Atypical cases

"Occasionally ZOTON may cause side effects. Such side-effects do not usually last for long, However, please see your doctor if any of the following become severe to troublesome.
Headache, diarrhoea, stomach pain, feeling of sickness, vomiting, taste disturbances, dizziness, vertigo, confusion, blurred vision, hallucinations, feeling unwell, constipation, wind, dry or sore mouth or throat, tiredness, burning or prickling feeling, itching, hair thinning, muscle or joint pains, fluid retention, swelling, depression.
As with other acid reducing drugs, men taking lansoprazole may occasionally experience temporary breast swelling or impotence.
You should contact your doctor if you develop a rash. The majority of rashes are mild and self-limiting but sensitivity to sunlight and more severe blistering rashes have occurred rarely, which may require medical treatment.
You should see your doctor at once if you get a fever, any unexplained bruising or bleeding, extreme fatigue, difficulty in urinating, if your skin or whites of your eyes become more yellow than usual or if you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath or face swelling.
As natural acid in the stomach helps to kill bacteria, the lowering of acid by acid-reducing drugs such as ZOTON may make some people more liable to suffer from certain stomach infections. If you suffer from severe persistent diarrhoea and/ or vomiting whilst taking ZOTON you should consult your doctor.
Other side effects include kidney problems, inflammation of the liver or changes in kidney or liver function.

Atypical client of the type dropped by UK Seroxat lawyers because they were taking a cocktail of psychoactive drugs!

Most Seroxat clients dropped because they were taking other drugs in conjunction with their paroxetine
The reason why there are only 600 or so claimaints left in the UK Seroxat class action against GSK is because many cases were dropped because of doctors prescribing other drugs in conjunction with Seroxat. I know personally of many people who have been dropped from the class action because of this and other factors...
Oh and by the way, Janice Simmons of the seroxatusersgroup met with UK prime minister Gordon Brown at downing street a few days ago. Bear in mind that there is currently a 4 year long investigation into the conduct of GSK regarding Seroxat prescribing to children/suppression of negative clinical data etc..

But bear in mind also that JP Garnier( GSK CEO) is also on "Gordon Browns Business Council"...
Also worthy of thought is what GSK means to the UK economy..
It is virtually an English institution with its roots firmly cemented in UK research/developement/sponsorship/employment etc..
It is the UK's Major Pharma Cash Cow..
And it is prized very much as being such...
Will be interesting when more info on this meeting begins to bear fruit...
But i have a feeling that the UK seroxat scandal is a can of worms which has been eating its way right through the core of UK politics for quite some time now...
And when something has become that rotten..
