More clues about Sara Carlin's state of mind during her final days of life surfaced, Wednesday, during the third day of a coroner's inquest into the death of the 18-year-old Oakville woman.

Sara, a graduate of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School, hanged herself in her parent's basement on Sunday, May 6, 2007.

At the time Sara had been taking Paxil, a powerful anti-depressant, which Health Canada has issued advisories for due to the possible increased risk of suicidal events in children and adolescents who take it.

Throughout the inquest, Gary Will, lawyer for the Carlin family, has attempted to link Sara's introduction to the drug in February 2006 to her downward spiral of out of control behavior, which ended with her death.

Lawyers for Paxil manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline, three doctors who put Sara on Paxil, and the coroner's council have suggested other reasons behind her suicide.

The inquest has been called by the Ontario Coroner's Office to examine the events surrounding Sara's death to determine if it was preventable and what recommendations, if any, can be made to stop similar deaths from happening in the future.

Throughout Wednesday, the Coroner's Counsel Michael Blain called a number of witnesses to the stand.

This included Adam Currie, who dated Sara for the final two weeks of her life.

The jury heard Currie and Sara had been acquaintances for years through mutual friends, but only started dating in late April 2007.

Currie said the relationship involved considerable binge drinking at friends’ homes and bars, paid for largely by Currie.

Friends of Sara's have previously testified she was into cocaine during this period, but Currie said she never witnessed her using it.

Currie also mentioned Sara had told him she was suffering from vicious nightmares and drank excessively so she could black out and thereby silence them.

When it came to the Paxil she was taking, Currie said all he knew was that it was for anxiety and that Sara had been talking about going off it gradually.

"This was something on her mind, but it was never executed to my knowledge," he said.

On May 4, two days before Sara's death, Currie said the two had gone to an Oakville bar, but Currie became upset when Sara began spending time with a man with whom she'd had a previous relationship.

As the bar was closing, Currie said Sara opted to stay with this man, at which point Currie grew angry and left.

The next morning at around 8 a.m. the two exchanged a series of heated phone calls and text messages.

Currie said Sara was incoherent and whispering into the phone.

He said he believed she was on cocaine and became angry, as she had stayed at the other man's house overnight.
