Glaxosmithkline to Generate Power from Tidal Energy .. what will self-appointed watchdog FIDDAMAN do?

Glaxosmithkline (GSK) has submitted its application to the Scottish Government for a marine generation license to generate power from 15 tidal turbines placed either side of the South Esk bridge.

This is another step the company made upon pursuing efforts towards generating its own marine energy for its local factory as part of its carbon reduction program.

The company won a tidal energy contract from the Crown Estate in December which gives GSK permission to lease part of the riverbed for the project.

A GSK spokesman explained there are several steps in the process and in case the marine generation license is granted, a further application will have to be made to Angus Council.

Apart from marine turbines, the project comprises installation of an onshore sub-station to relay electricity to the Cobden Street site.
